The Curious shelf
A small world
of snack discoveries.
Imported snacks in Lincoln Park, Chicago. Start with a country, a texture, or a flavor you have never tried.
What is on the snack wall?
Urban Alchemist’s Curious shelf brings imported packaged snacks into our Lincoln Park shop at 2219 N Clybourn Ave, Unit A. The selection is organized by country, with snacks from Japan, Korea, Mexico, Thailand, India and the Philippines among the places represented.
Arrivals change. This page describes the collection rather than a live inventory: a country, brand or flavor may not be available on the day you visit. Call the shop if you have a particular item in mind.
Follow your curiosity
Start with flavor
Sweet, salty, sour or spicy? Naming a familiar flavor gives you a starting point for exploring something unfamiliar.
Look at the package
A familiar brand can have different flavors or ingredients in different markets. Check the actual package rather than assuming it is the same as a version you know.
Familiar brands, unfamiliar variants
Our September 15, 2026 inventory export recorded Lays Exotics variants such as Cucumber and Numb & Spicy Hotpot, Doritos Exotics Coriander (Cilantro), and Mochi Tiramisu & Creme minis. These are examples from that dated record, not a promise of today’s stock or a guarantee about ingredients. They illustrate why the exact flavor and package matter more than recognizing the brand.
Compare a familiar flavor with something new, then check the package size and whether it is meant to share. If you are buying for someone else, ask about their tastes and dietary requirements first. Flavor names do not tell you whether an item contains milk, nuts or animal-derived ingredients.
Call (312) 375-4448 to ask about a particular brand and variant before making a special trip. Our visit guide has the address and current-hours link. If you are also exploring drinks, the tea and botanical guide covers preparation and label questions.
A few good questions before choosing
- What are the ingredients and allergen statements on this package?
- Does it meet my dietary requirements? Look for a specific label rather than inferring from the flavor or country.
- What is the best-before date, and how should it be stored?
- Is this a regular arrival or part of a changing selection?
If a label is unclear, ask to read the available labeling before deciding. We cannot guarantee that every item is suitable for a particular allergy or diet.
